Libby Registration

The first step towards browsing the Digital Library of Illinois is to enter your information into the app. "Your information" in this sense is limited to your library card number as will be shown below. There won't be any setting up of an account or creating a new password. All the information you require you should already have: your library card number and PIN. If you aren't sure, call your library!

Once you have the app, it's time to log in. The first thing you will see, especially if you have never used the app before, is a loading screen similar to this.

Please note: this is the dark theme, the app may look different on your device.

Depending on your device, this may take a moment, so please be patient.

Once loaded and ready, Libby is going to ask if you have a library card.

If you are a Newman Regional Library card holder, the answer is "Yes". (If not, maybe this is a good time to visit the library?)

Tap "Yes".

If you have Libby on another device, you can copy your information over, as indicated. This guide is for first-time users, so that feature is outside the scope of this document.

Instead, you are going to search for the library. Rather than have Libby guess (and probably have to turn on location features to do so) you are going to find it yourself.

Tap on "I'll Search For A Library".

We share our digital materials with all of the libraries in our library system, so you won't search for "Newman". Instead search for "Illinois Heartland Library System". As seen in the next image, Digital Library of Illinois comes up as a result. Tap to select it.

Next, you need to sign into your account. You will need a library card "in good standing" in order to do so. That means you cannot have $5 or more in fines and your library card and address information must be current in our records. In addition, anything else the system considers a "block" must be dealt with before you can log in. If you have any difficulty with this part and you are sure you are entering all information correctly, please call the library for more assistance.

As shown in the next image, enter the barcode from your library card and tap next.

After entering your barcode, you must enter your PIN (Personal Identification Number). This number is set up during registration. If you do not know your PIN, please contact the library.

After entering your PIN, tap "Sign In". You will be presented with your virtual card for the Digital Library of Illinois.

Tap "Next" on your device to start borrowing books.

If you want to learn about configuring Libby to make it a little more personal, select Preferences, below. If you would prefer to skip that part and just get to the books, choose Explore.
